In September, The Magician VR: The Cursed Wand, an arcade shooter that reimagines the typical arcade game concept, will be released on Quest. Set in an early 20th-century fantasy world, players will cast spells using gestures to battle waves of enemies.

The action takes place in the grim, apocalyptic town of Crowville in the early 20th century, besieged by otherworldly forces. The player wields a cursed staff and battles hordes of hungry creatures and giant bosses, casting realistic spells in the air: from jets of water to extinguish fire to powerful attack spells.

The game will feature:

  • A campaign with clear progression through key locations,
  • An arcade survival mode against endless waves of enemies,
  • A magic leveling system: the better your score, the more powerful your spells become in subsequent rounds.
  • Stylized graphics, an atmospheric soundtrack, and intuitive controls promise a satisfying experience for both new and experienced players.

The new game doesn’t aim to impress with its graphics. Instead, the developers are apparently hoping to capitalize on the unique concept of gesture controls, where, like button combinations in fighting games, knowing exactly how to produce a particular effect is crucial.

The game doesn’t yet have a demo or public beta on the Horizon Store, so the early fall release is the best time to evaluate this experience.
