The Asus gaming division has opened pre-orders for the ROG Xreal R1 augmented reality headset, developed in partnership with Xreal. The new headset is priced at a hefty $849 and will be available on May 17th from the vendor’s online store.
The ROG XREAL R1’s key feature is its ability to display a 171-inch, Full HD virtual screen, which can be used virtually anywhere. Micro-OLED panels provide the image, and a 3DoF tracking system allows you to pin a virtual window to a specific location. In other respects, the model is almost identical to the standard XREAL One Pro: a 57-degree viewing angle, built-in speakers tuned by Bose, and support for connecting to PCs, smartphones, and portable consoles.
The main difference with the ROG version is its 240Hz refresh rate. By comparison, the standard XREAL One Pro only supports 120Hz. The manufacturer is targeting esports and fast-paced games, where a high refresh rate can reduce latency and make the image visually smoother.
The increased refresh rate makes the ROG Xreal R1 suitable for fast-paced shooters and other games. Between gaming sessions, the glasses can be used for watching movies or performing everyday PC tasks.
