Nightdive Studios’ 2023 remake of the cult sci-fi game System Shock will receive a full-fledged virtual reality (VR) version. The official VR adaptation is being developed in collaboration with Flat2VR Studios.

According to the developers, the VR version of System Shock will not be a “compromise” port, but a full-fledged transfer of the game to virtual reality. The developers will retain all the original content and add new mechanics based on free vision and direct interaction with weapons, the environment, and other elements of the game world.

Incidentally, this isn’t the first time Nightdive has attempted to adapt System Shock for virtual reality. Five years ago, the developers teased a VR version of System Shock 2, but that project vanished into thin air after Meta withdrew its funding.

Supported platforms will include Quest headsets, SteamVR-enabled devices, and PlayStation VR2. The latter will be available to PlayStation 5 owners.
