Insider and data miner Brad Lynch reported on the social network X that Valve has begun setting up a free distribution system for the sci-fi VR shooter Half-Life: Alyx.
This approach is reminiscent of the one the company used for the Valve Index: back then, Half-Life: Alyx was included with the game—those who bought the headset or controllers got the game for free. It appears Valve is once again hoping to boost device sales by leveraging the iconic title.
However, there has been no official announcement of the promotion yet, so the terms remain unclear. It’s unknown whether the game will be included with all Steam Frame units or only those sold during a specific period. The final price of the headset and the exact release date have also not yet been revealed, although the general consensus is that it’s expected soon. The Steam Verified program is expected to expand alongside the device’s launch.
Half-Life: Alyx may have been released in 2020, but even six years after its release, it remains one of the most advanced VR games on the market. The shooter consistently ranks among the top VR projects worth playing first.
