YouTube Launches Co-Watching Feature for Quest Headsets

The YouTube app for Meta Quest headsets received an update: the developers have added the ability to watch videos together in virtual reality. Now users can gather in a VR cinema and watch content together with a group of up to 7 people. However, you won’t be able to save money: each viewer will have to pay for paid content separately.

The Co-watch feature, which will be in beta for now, significantly expands the app’s capabilities. To use the new option, you need to make sure you have the latest version of YouTube installed and find the “Co-watch” icon (the icon with three people) at the top of the screen. Then select “Invite People” and invite friends from your subscriber list to watch together. Invited users must also be mutual subscribers. There are some limitations. For example, co-watching is only possible for 2D content.

Despite this, the feature provides a convenient way to organize shared leisure time in virtual reality, offering an alternative to Meta’s Horizon Worlds platform.
