“Squadron 42”, the story-driven campaign for “Star Citizen”, now has an official Steam page where the game can be added to wishlists. Developer Cloud Imperium Games is preparing for a PC release scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.

In “Squadron 42”, players will enlist in the United Empire of Earth (UEE) Navy and rise through the ranks as a recruit amidst a massive galactic war. Unlike the multiplayer “Star Citizen”, this project focuses on a cinematic single-player adventure featuring a narrative campaign, space combat, and crew interactions.

The action extends beyond the cockpits of fighter ships; players will visit capital ships, space stations, and frontier outposts, and find themselves right on the front lines of the conflict. The developers promise intense combat, dramatic events, and choices that can shape the protagonist’s fate. A star-studded cast plays a pivotal role in the storytelling, lending greater realism and depth to the characters’ appearance and behavior.

“Squadron 42” is being developed by Cloud Imperium Games—Chris Roberts’ studio, known for the ambitious scale of *Star Citizen*. The project is being created independently of the main game, though both titles share the same universe. Its goal is to offer a more traditional narrative experience where, rather than simply exploring space, the player progresses through a scripted story featuring cinematic sequences and character development.

The developers initially targeted late 2026, but studio founder Chris Roberts decided to push the timeline to the spring or early summer of 2027 to avoid clashing with the “Grand Theft Auto 6” release window. Earlier in 2026, funding for the main *Star Citizen* title surpassed one billion dollars.
