Meta and miltech startup Anduril are developing the EagleEye VR system for the US Army. The device improves a soldier’s vision and hearing sensitivity, detects threats, and enables control of weapons with artificial intelligence.
The system is called EagleEye. It will be equipped with sensors that improve soldiers’ hearing and vision, helping them detect drones or see hidden targets. The helmets will allow soldiers to control AI-based weapons systems. The devices are based on Anduril software and Meta AI models.
The companies have already applied for a contract to supply VR devices. The contract is worth up to $100 million. Even if the deal doesn’t happen, Meta and Anduril will continue to cooperate in the hope that other divisions will want to buy the headsets.
This is another project for Anduril co-founder Pallmer Luckey, the same guy who created the Oculus Rift helmet and now wants to “arm” every soldier with augmented reality.
