At the Google I/O 2026 conference, Samsung and Google unveiled their new Android XR glasses, created in collaboration with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, for the first time. The devices will work in conjunction with a smartphone and support Gemini voice commands.
The new product will be available in two design variants – Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Detailed technical specifications are not yet available, but the companies have already outlined the device’s key features.
The AI glasses run on the Android XR platform and provide hands-free voice access to Gemini. Users will be able to get turn-by-turn navigation, search for nearby locations, and receive personalized recommendations in real time.
The device also supports productivity features, including creating calendar events, viewing short notifications, and placing orders. Furthermore, the glasses will be able to translate speech in real time, and the built-in camera, coupled with AI, will instantly translate text and signs. The camera is also designed for taking photos and videos.
Judging by the published images, the device will feature a single camera and an LED indicator. The glasses will work in conjunction with a smartphone, acting as a secondary device.
Google is positioning Android XR as a platform, not a single product, similar to how Android became the dominant smartphone OS. Four launch partners cover different price points and styles: Samsung for the mass market, XREAL (Project Aura) for the AR display segment, and Warby Parker and Gentle Monster for the fashion audience. Gucci (through its parent company Kering) has also confirmed that it is building Android XR glasses, but for a 2027 launch.
