Meta announced it will outsource the Aria Gen 2 project to external researchers next year. The company hopes this will accelerate the development of machine perception and artificial intelligence technologies needed for future augmented reality glasses and AI-powered personal assistants.
Aria Gen 2 is distinguished by its lightness and thoughtful design. The weight of the device is only 74-76 grams, which allows you to wear the glasses for a long time without discomfort. Unlike the first generation model, the new version is equipped with folding temples, which simplifies storage and transportation. Meta also paid attention to individual fit: the glasses are available in eight sizes, ensuring comfort for users with different face shapes and head sizes. This approach is especially important for research tasks, where the accuracy and stability of wearing directly affect the quality of the collected data.
The company is currently accepting applications from researchers interested in using the device. It is expected to ship to qualified applicants in the second quarter of 2026. This also means that applications for Aria Gen 1 have closed, and the remaining requests are still to be processed.
