Apple plans to introduce a minor update to the Vision Pro in 2025, which will include an M4 processor and a new neural processor for AI.
The $3,499 Vision Pro, due out in February 2024, is powered by the three-year-old M2 chip. Bloomberg reports that the next version of the Vision Pro could be more AI-focused, in line with the company’s push to bring the technology to iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Apple is also reportedly planning to equip the next Vision Pro with more than the 16 neural cores available in the current M2-powered headset. If true, this would be the first M4 chip to have more than 16 neural cores — only the M2 Ultra and M3 Ultra have had more cores so far. Even without the extra cores, the M4’s 16-core neural processing unit is still more than twice as fast as the M2’s.
Apple is also testing new straps for the Vision Pro to make the roughly 1.2-ounce device more comfortable to wear.
This will be the last update to the Vision Pro in its current form. In 2027, Apple wants to introduce a new generation of Vision Pro, which will be much lighter. However, the presentation dates may shift.
