McDonald’s Japan has launched its first official virtual world on VRChat, in conjunction with a major advertising campaign featuring leading Japanese artists, both real and virtual.
In 2023, McDonald’s Japan launched the Tiro Remix project, a special nationwide advertising campaign that remixed two popular songs of that year: Show by Ado and Paku by Asmi. This resulted in a new composition that used the sound of McDonald’s famous potato pancakes being prepared as a beat. Having achieved success, the company repeated the project the following year with a new set of artists.
When customers pick up a bag of potato pancakes from the table, the familiar “tirori” sound that is commonly heard when Japanese convenience stores serve potatoes is played, and it is also possible to pick up and eat individual pancakes straight from the package.
Several bags of delicious potatoes on the table imply the opportunity to share the experience with friends, just like in a real McDonald’s. You can also pose with virtual stands in the form of the potato pancake mascot and characters from the music video.
This is the first official McDonald’s world in VRChat, recreating the atmosphere of the chain’s Japanese restaurants.
