At the Connect 2026 conference, Meta unveiled Meta VR Glasses—compact VR glasses featuring MicroOLED displays and a separate computing module. The device weighs approximately 100 grams, and sales will not begin until the spring of 2027.
Meta VR glasses are a two-part virtual reality system. The headset, weighing around 100 grams, houses the displays and sensors, while an external “puck”—which clips onto a pocket or bag—handles processing and the battery. Meta markets the device as a personal cinema, a workspace, and a console that does not require controllers.
Essentially, the weight is shifted from the face to the pocket. Meta describes a two-part system: the headset handles the sensors and displays, while a “puck” manages processing, the battery, and storage, connecting to the headset via a thin optical cable. According to UploadVR, the puck weighs around 300 grams. Meta has not disclosed the total weight, but the user ends up carrying a combined 400 grams (300 for the puck and 100 for the headset).
The battery is the second area of compromise. The puck supports up to three hours of continuous high-resolution playback and features 45-watt fast charging. That is enough for a long movie or half of an intercontinental flight, but not for a full workday.
Finally, there is the field of view. According to data from UploadVR, the 70-degree horizontal field of view provides a window into the virtual world that is noticeably narrower than the approximately 110 degrees offered by the Quest 3, as cited by Road to VR. For a movie theater setup or a multi-screen arrangement, the difference is negligible. For a game that surrounds the player, however, it is more significant.
Sales of Meta VR glasses will begin in the spring of 2027. The price in the US will be $1,300.
