Sharp has developed the Xrostella VR1 VR headset. With a lightweight body weighing approximately 198 grams and a high-resolution display, the device provides a comfortable fit and total immersion.
The Xrostella VR1 connects to either a Windows 11 PC or a limited number of smartphones via a wired connection. The company has confirmed compatibility with the Sharp AQUOS Sense10, with other models to be released soon.
Weighing just 198 grams, the headset features what Sharp calls a “glasses-inspired design” in its Japanese press release. It features dual LCD displays with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz.
It also features a “thin, light-efficient pancake lens” with a 90-degree field of view (FOV), as well as cameras for inside-out 6DOF tracking and color reproduction.
The included controller also recognizes hand movements. When connected to a smartphone, its screen can be mirrored in the headset, allowing users to enjoy video content on a large virtual screen. Furthermore, the built-in microphone and speaker provide convenient communication and high-quality audio playback in VR.
Sharp Japan plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the Xrostella VR1 VR headset through the Green Funding crowdfunding service in November of this year.
