According to South Korean publication ETNews, Samsung may release a mixed reality headset called Project Moohan next month.
Samsung’s Mobile Experience division will unveil Moohan (Korean for “infinity”) online on October 21st, most likely on the morning of October 22nd in Korea. Specifications, pricing, and availability will also be revealed there.
South Korean publication Newsworks previously reported that Samsung would unveil Moohan at an event scheduled for September 29th, with sales beginning on October 13th, marking its first Korean debut. However, a recent report from ETNews claims the schedule has been adjusted due to changes in Samsung’s marketing strategy and final quality checks.
As the first XR headset to run Google’s Android XR operating system, Moohan could become an alternative to Apple’s VisionOS operating system for the Vision Pro, which gives users access to most iOS apps in addition to dedicated content created specifically for the device. This is a stark contrast to Meta Horizon OS for the Quest, which requires developers to manually port Android apps to the platform.
According to the report, Samsung isn’t expecting widespread support for Moohan. The company is said to be planning an initial shipment of only about 100,000 units, with subsequent adjustments based on initial demand.
