Minecraft Loses Support for All VR Headsets

Mojang has decided to drop virtual reality support for Minecraft, affecting not only PlayStation VR, but all existing VR headsets.

Minecraft is expected to end support for VR headsets after March 2025. It is not specified why the decision was made to stop supporting these devices for playing in virtual reality, but the announcement states it as follows:

“…After receiving the “final” update [when VR support ends], you will continue to receive future updates on PC and will be able to play without a VR/MR device. From that point on, you will be able to continue building your worlds and Marketplace purchases (including Minecoins) will still be available on a non-VR/MR graphics device, such as a computer monitor. You will no longer be able to use a VR/MR device in Minecraft, as it will no longer be supported in future updates.”

Minecraft is a popular indie game from Mojang Studios. In the title, players can explore an open world, build buildings, fight, and find resources. The project was released in 2011 and is available on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Raspberry Pi, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and Android devices.
