The company announced new prices for its line of devices on its website. The announcement didn’t specify the VR headsets’ pre-price increases, but Arstechnica reports that the increase was between $50 and $100.

This decision is driven by a significant increase in hardware production costs due to a global shortage of RAM components caused by the boom in artificial intelligence (AI). The new prices will take effect on April 19th and are the company’s response to changing market conditions and pressure on supply chains. The main reason for the price increase was a sharp jump in RAM prices, as production lines previously focused on the consumer segment were switched to producing specialized memory for data centers used for AI.

The Quest 3 headset is now available only with a 512GB drive, while the Quest 3S is available in 128GB and 512GB models, while the technical specifications of the devices themselves remain unchanged.

New prices:

  • Meta Quest 3S (128 GB) – $349.
  • Meta Quest 3S (256 GB) – $449.
  • Meta Quest 3 (512 GB) – $599.
