Pimax has announced its next major VR headset, the Crystal Pro, which features not only support for high-quality PC VR streaming but also the ability to run games in standalone mode.
The Crystal Pro is a headset powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen1 processor. The device can connect to a PC wirelessly via Wi-Fi. Enthusiasts also have the option of a wired connection using DisplayPort 1.4a. Another option is the third-generation AirLink 60G adapter, which offers a bandwidth of up to 6 Gbps for high-quality wireless video transmission.
It supports foveated streaming, delivering maximum image quality where the user is looking; this feature relies on an integrated eye-tracking system. Basic tracking is handled by SLAM 2.0 technology, allowing the headset to track its position even in the dark. Four cameras, a motion sensor, and an infrared illuminator work in tandem.
The headset features QLED panels with a resolution of 2880 × 2880 pixels per eye, a density of 35 PPD, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 110-degree field of view. It utilizes aspherical glass lenses, which deliver higher image contrast than pancake lenses.

The faceplate, strap, audio system, and lenses are all designed for easy removal. The Pimax Crystal Pro uses an external battery with a rated capacity of 16,000 mAh.
Shipments of the Pimax Crystal Pro are scheduled to begin next year, with the device priced at $1,399. The third-generation 60G AirLink module costs $599.
The price for the complete bundle is $1,899. Pre-orders for the Crystal Pro are open now, requiring a non-refundable $1 deposit.
