Valve has patented a design for an eye-tracking system for a virtual reality headset. The company filed the patent in January 2024, and it was accepted in November of this year.

Eye tracking calibration in a VR headset can be improved during use. This is accomplished by tracking the user’s head rotation for a specified period of time while wearing the headset. Simultaneously, the user’s eye rotation is tracked over the same period. Eye rotation is then compared to head rotation, and the eye tracking calibration for the VR headset is adjusted based on this comparison.

Valve previously announced its Steam Frame VR headset, along with the Steam Machine and Steam Controller.
