Play for Dream, formerly known as YVR and now working on the company’s flagship standalone MR/VR microdisplay headset Play For Dream MR, has announced that its popular PCVR image streaming app Virtual Desktop will be coming to the headset next week.
Play For Dream MR has a built-in free tool for wireless streaming of VIA from PC, as do other standalone glasses – Quest, Pico, HTC. But its client suffers from quality issues, and practice shows that many people prefer a third-party product, Virtual Desktop.
Virtual Desktop streams to multiple virtual monitors and supports AV1, HEVC and H.264 codecs with a number of features such as cutouts in the virtual environment, on-device image scaling and motion extrapolation.
The arrival of Virtual Desktop on the Play For Dream MR gadget could make the glasses more interesting to many buyers, given the significantly higher resolution than the Quest 3, eye tracking support, and the contrast of the OLED displays.
