The first major update to Quest introduces a new Navigator user interface and a 3D effect for Instagram photos. However, these features are still in the testing phase.
What is Navigator?
It’s a new app launcher that:
— Shows recently used apps
— Allows you to pin up to 10 apps for quick access
It’s based on Meta’s experience over the past 10 years. The developers call this just the beginning of a global change in interfaces in spatial computing.
3D photos from Instagram
Meta is testing turning regular Instagram photos into 3D using AI. You don’t need special cameras for this — the algorithms add volume automatically. This allows you to view flat pictures with a depth effect.
The feature is currently available to a limited number of users.
Other changes in v77:
— Windows follow you — you can move with the window without reconfiguring the view
— Spatial audio controls — you can now enable or disable 3D audio for individual apps
— Bluetooth LE Audio support — an experimental feature
— Text to speech — the text-to-speech function has been improved
— Simplified name tags — frames have been removed, leaving only stickers
— New combination for Meta AI — Meta + Grip instead of random activation.
