Meta’s new product will be aimed at those who don’t like heavy headsets. The product has been codenamed Puffin, and is virtually indistinguishable from classic sunglasses.
The glasses are said to weigh around 110 grams, which is heavier than Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, but significantly lighter than the bulkier Quest 3 headset. Due to the smaller form factor, the glasses may have an external unit with a battery and processor, similar to the wired battery that comes with Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The new glasses are also said to feature pancake lenses, giving the new product a thinner profile. The device will support video passthrough so the wearer can see objects around them beyond the displays, as well as hand and eye tracking for control.
The price of the gadget is currently unknown. But there is an approximate release date: Puffin will appear on the market no earlier than 2027.
