Meta will update the Horizon Worlds metaverse by adding AI-powered non-player characters (NPCs). Developers will have tools to create virtual companions that can conduct realistic dialogues and respond to player actions, which will significantly expand the possibilities for interaction in the virtual world.
This update from Meta expands the capabilities of the Character Builder editor in the Worlds Desktop Editor. It promises to significantly expand the possibilities of interaction in the metaverse due to generative AI.
“As part of this update, we are expanding the Character Builder with new tools that will allow you to define various characteristics of your NPCs, such as name, biography, personality traits, dialogues, and also test their reactions,” says the official Meta blog.
This will be the first time Meta allows developers to create fully-fledged, customizable NPCs in Horizon Worlds. The company has experimented in this area before, but NPCs were limited to pre-made scripts. Now, their customization options are greatly expanded. Meta has posted a video showing how to work with the new features.
The exact release date for the update is unknown, but more details are expected at the Meta Connect event.
