VRified Games is developing a fully playable VR version of the original 1999 Silent Hill. The project transforms the classic PlayStation 1 game into first-person stereoscopic 3D, adds head tracking and updated controls, while preserving the original game’s structure. The developer clarified that the project is neither a fan remake nor a port, but rather an experimental adaptation of the original game for virtual reality.
Silent Hill is a survival horror game set in the foggy American town of Silent Hill. The player controls Harry Mason, who searches for his daughter, who has mysteriously disappeared, and gradually encounters a distorted reality shaped by fear, guilt, and the secrets of the past.
The game is distinguished by its oppressive atmosphere, intentionally limited visibility, unsettling sound design, and an unconventional approach to storytelling, where much of the plot is revealed through the environment and symbolism. The combat system emphasizes survival and tension over action, and multiple endings depend on the player’s actions throughout the game.
The new project will allow players to explore the fog-shrouded town of Silent Hill in first-person for the first time, focusing on immersive horror and environmental interaction. Footage from the VR demo shows updated camera angles and head-controlled perspectives, bringing flat-screen mechanics to VR gameplay.
