VR-Kanojo has taken the top spot for best-selling games on Steam in Japan. After its July 31 release, the romance sim has surpassed other popular titles, including Battlefield 6, which opened for pre-orders on the same day.
VR-Kanojo is the successor to Illusion’s VR Kanojo (note the lack of a hyphen), developed with crowdfunding funds by a new studio called Illumination. The team includes developers who worked on the original game, including producer Yunayuna and lead character artist Genz, who serves as the main supervisor for VR-Kanojo.
In VR-Kanojo, the player spends time alone with Sakura Yuuhi, a virtual girl. As the only people in the virtual world, players must use the unique “look and touch” mechanics to deepen their relationship with the girl.
VR-Kanojo is available on Steam with an “Adults Only” rating.
