PowerWash Simulator VR Development for Quest Has Been Halted

FuturLab is ceasing development of PowerWash Simulator VR, citing high costs and low profits.

FutureLab has announced that it will no longer provide updates or improvements to the virtual reality (VR) adaptation of the highly acclaimed PowerWash Simulator. The VR version launched in 2023 on Meta Quest 2 and 3 devices and will continue to run, including all previously released downloadable content (DLC).

In an official statement, FuturLab CEO Kirsty Rigden writes:

«I am very sad to tell you that we will not be continuing to support PowerWash Simulator VR. We absolutely love and believe in VR, so this does not mean that we will not support this technology in the future, but right now we cannot continue.

We were faced with a choice: we have a really great and supportive VR team who were working on a platform that was costing us more than it was making, and we had a backlog of positions that needed to be filled on other projects. We have made the decision to move our VR team to these projects and roles. While I would love to live in a world where we could support PowerWash Simulator on all platforms, I will always choose job security for my team. Always. I know you are probably very disappointed, but I also know that if you were in my shoes, you would make the same decision.»

Rigden did not reveal the reasons for the commercial failure. PowerWash Simulator VR currently has a 4.3 out of 5 rating on the Horizon Store based on over 1,100 ratings, while on Steam there are over 43,000 reviews with an “overwhelmingly positive” rating.
