Flat2VR Studios Launches Spark ‘Unoutsourced’ Program

Speaking at today’s VR Games Showcase, Flat2VR Studios co-founders Elliott Tate and Eric Mascher shared more details about the upcoming initiative.

Flat2VR Studios co-founders Elliott Tate and Eric Mascher said they were getting “too many” requests from studios to bring their games to VR, so they created Spark as a way for modders to work with the official source code.

They say it’s not outsourcing, although it sounds like a typical agency setup: the IP stays with the original rights holder, Flat2VR handles licensing, quality control, technical requirements checklist and certification, platform requirements, and other analytics and management, while “small teams of experts” handle production. As a result, Flat2VR and its production partners share the rights to the results of the work and a share of the revenue.

Flat2VR Studios also shared some other projects during today’s presentation. In addition to a brief teaser for Poppy Playtime VR, a Kickstarter campaign has been launched for Postal 2 Redux, a remake being developed alongside Postal 2 VR, which now supports a VR version. Trombone Champ Unflattened also released six new tracks in the paid DLCs for Undertale and Deltarune.
